Leaning Ladder Update

I bought this wooden leaning ladder many moons ago. When I brought it home my husband commented that it really served no purpose other than to sit in a corner. When you placed things on it they would fall off so basically it just sat in the corner in our bedroom until recently. I had made up my mind I was either going to do something with it or get rid of it. So I came up with a plan.

So here is my ladder. The only thing that never fell off of it was the dust. So before starting this project it needed a good cleaning.

As you can see from the picture it was just natural wood, so I wanted to add abit of paint to age it. So I decided to use this Porcelain white I had left over. Using a flat brush I just started randomly brushing on the paint.

So here is what it looks like paint applied, I continued to do the whole ladder the same way.

So this is the ladder completed.

I had picked up these baskets at the Dollar store and figured I could use them for storage.

I needed a way to attach them so I opted for using some wood screws.

So I placed my basket on the bottom step of my ladder and using a screwdriver attached the basket.

I did the same for the smaller basket.

I am an avid reader and love my books, but again they would fall off the useless ladder if bumped. So I wanted a way to secure them.

I had saved some of my son's belts he had outgrown figuring I could use them for a project one day, and today was the day.

I took one of the belts and wrapped it around the ladder and books.

Using a wood screw I attached the belt on either side .

I continued doing this on two more steps on my ladder, opting to do the middle one a different way. Securing all with the screws.

Here is my ladder back beside my bed. My one basket now holds my glasses, lip balm, lavender pillow spray and hand lotion. The bottom one holds my slippers. All easy access now.

I love how this turned out.

My useless ladder had now become useful!!

This was super easy to do and only cost me $5.50 for my baskets. Can't beat that!

Very creative. Did you widen the lower rungs holding the baskets because they seem bigger than in the original photo. Also, did you anchor it to the wall as my concern would be the weight of the books but I love your idea.
