Repurposed Dresser to Bench

by Gary Hardman
This $20 garage sale find was pretty beat up.
I started by (1) cutting the top off, (2)removing the first level of drawers and their wood supports (3) adding seat supports, and dropping the top of the dresser down to create the bench seat.
I added a back and sides made from the top and bottom drawer faces. A piece of decorative trim for the top. Chalk painted and distressed it black. Added a cushion and baskets for storage underneath.
This ugly duckling is now the center piece for my entryway and great storage for shoes, boots gloves and hats.

I've never used chalk paint, does it rub off if it's not sealed? I guess if you have to seal it you may as well use a matte paint is that correct!

I love this and how it turned out ! I would like to know what you used to make your seat support? I have a dresser I'm working on to turn into a bench, I've built benches and storage chest before, however this is Much different than building one from scratch and I'm a little bit intimidated by it haha
