How can I hang things on my hardiplank siding?
I'd like to hand a planter and flag holder on the side of my house but my husband is nervous about drilling any holes into our hardiplank. Should I be concerned about drilling into it?

Hardiplank is a cement board. It should be able to withstand the drill. I would call a company that sells it and then you will know for sure. You also need to find a wall stud if you are going to hang a flag as the movement of it, when windy, will put a lot of strain on your siding if you do not anchor it properly.
Also ask what type of screws to use, I’m sure it’ll take a certain kind.
Don't be scared you can fill in the holes
No concern. Use a masonry drill bit since it is cement based. Use Tapcon screws especially for the flag holder. No anchors needed. They are made for concrete, cement, stone.
No need to drill into your siding. Use NoDamageHooks. Very simple, no drilling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RutcQ1IBhw

You can drill into Hardiplank, but use a masonry bit and proper anchors. If you're concerned, try adhesive hooks or siding-specific hangers.
If you do drill holes, make sure they are where you want them to be first time and they are going into a batten underneath too.
I don't know why people are still talking about drilling and doing permanent damage. I've sold more than 100,000 hooks in every state in the US and in every province in Canada with hundreds of 5 star ratings. NoDamageHooks, the only way to go.
Hi Kirssten, since your husband is uncomfortable with drilling into the hardiplank, maybe it would be good to check with the manufacturer or distributor of it and ask them for the best and most safe method to hang items from the hardiplank.
Hi Kristen: Your hubby is right to be concrned. You can hang things on a Hardiplank siding by drilling screws into them. You can hang featherweight objects like flower baskets with little weight on the screw anywhere you wish. However, heavier objects shouldn’t be put directly on the Hardiplank, so use a stud finder to find a stud and drill holes into them for hanging heavy things.
