What Are the Best Easter Tree Ornaments to Use?

by Bobby Reynolds

I want to put together an Easter tree this year, but I’d love to make some of the decorations myself! Have you ever made DIY Easter tree ornaments? What materials work best?

Also, I’ve seen some beautiful colorful garlands on Easter trees—any tips for making one that looks festive without being overwhelming?

I'm partial to using the clear plastic ornaments and painting or filling them. Bows are always a nice touch as well.

A trip through the national craft stores is a great way to start and get ideas that appeal to you. Then a trip to DollarTree will give you way to incorporate the ideas you've formed very inexpensively. There are also many videos on-line showing exactly how to create some very fun and inexpensive creations for the Easter holiday. I've watched several and they are quite interesting....from making topiary using DollarTree plastic bowls, covered with green moss and then adding bunny ear headbands, etc., etc. You could also simply use Easter candies that are available everywhere to decorate a tree.

    DIY Easter Tree Ornaments Ideas:

Yes, I've seen and helped with many! Some great materials to use:

    1. Wooden eggs (painted or decoupaged)
    2. Plastic eggs (lightweight and easy to hang)
    3. Felt or fabric (cut into bunny, chick, or flower shapes)
    4. Paper or cardstock (for mini baskets or origami shapes)
    5. Ribbon, lace, and buttons (for extra detail)

Use hot glue or craft glue and lightweight string or twine to hang them.

    Festive Garland Tips:

To keep it bright but not overwhelming:

    1. Choose 2–3 main colors and stick to that palette.
    2. Use materials like pastel pom-poms, fabric strips, or paper circles.
    3. Try stringing mini carrots, chicks, or floral cutouts for variety.
    4. Keep spacing even, and don’t overcrowd the tree; let each element breathe.
