I want to set up an Easter egg scavenger hunt that’s more exciting than just hiding eggs in the yard.

Has anyone tried fun clues, themed hunts, or special egg surprises?

Would love some ideas!

An Easter egg scavenger hunt can be a fun and creative way to celebrate! Here are some of the best ideas to make it exciting for all ages:

1️⃣ Clue-Based Hunt (Treasure Hunt Style)

    1. Hide eggs with written clues leading to the next egg and, eventually, a grand prize.
    2. Example: "Hop to where you brush your hair, an egg is waiting for you there!"
    3. Works well indoors or outdoors.

    2️⃣ Golden Egg Challenge

    1. Hide a special golden egg with an extra prize inside (money, a big candy, or a gift card).
    2. Give hints throughout the hunt to make it extra exciting.

    3️⃣ Puzzle Piece Hunt

    1. Place a puzzle piece inside each egg; kids must collect all pieces to complete a picture or message.
    2. You can use a store-bought puzzle or print your own Easter-themed picture.

    4️⃣ Color-Coded Hunt

    1. Assign each child a specific egg color to make it fair for different age groups.
    2. Example: Younger kids get easier-to-find colors, while older kids search for well-hidden ones.

    5️⃣ Glow-in-the-Dark Night Hunt 🌙

    1. Use glow stick-filled eggs or LED eggs for a nighttime adventure.
    2. Great for older kids or a fun twist on a traditional hunt.

    6️⃣ Activity Challenge Hunt

    1. Hide eggs with fun challenges inside. Before moving on, kids must complete the task.
    2. Example: "Do 5 bunny hops," "Sing a springtime song," or "Find someone to give a hug."

We always wrapped one egg with aluminum foil and it was either exchanged for a prize or put money inside. You could make it more interesting by having multiple "special" eggs. Hide them in very hard to find places and put clues inside the plastic eggs that are easier to find.

I once placed clues inside of each egg...each clue lead to the next egg.

  • I would put the clues inside a basket, this way they have the basket to carry around and collect the eggs as they go.
