How do I find matching pieces to this dresser?

I have a dresser and armoire made by Drexel the numbers on the back of dresser say 704-136-88 under that says 11/68.I have been wanting to try to find more pieces and I’m not having any luck I thought if I had a name of this group it might help to find more pieces. They almost have a Bombay feel to them. They are an off white or beige the handles have a flower design and there’s some gold trim around it. If and when he won knows the answer to this it would be very much appreciated

It's their French Provencial line from the 60s, marked Nov 1968. Call Drexel Heritage for more information. Look at Craig's list, thrift stores, eBay, auction sites. I see these often. They are very affordable now since that style is out of favor now. A simular bedroom suite just sold at our local auction for $225.00. Bed, 2 nite stands, dresser w. Mirror, and chest. Drexel is a very good brand. Need to find before the young people paint them all.

I thought the French provincial had the queen legs on it. Oh I know everybody is painting everything this has more of a Bombay feel to it though then French provincial. That’s just my opinion because of the curves. When I look up French provincial in Drexel, everything is like a queen and more of a straight line

Hello, it is a beautiful set. It is not French provencial, you are correct. My father had the French provencial, this has the different legs. I looked online Drexel Heritage Sketch Book French Bombe is a very close match in walnut veneer, @chairish.com

Tina, I am sorry if I led you astray, in the Designer world we call everything that is white and gold French Provential, as do antique dealers, whether it's Queen Anne, Bombay or Sheraton. Kinda like all tissues are Kleenex and copiers are xerox. Wasn't trying to be specific. So if you do an internet search you can be specific but also look at Frech Provental or French White since others may not be so exact, too. Good luck in your quest.

I actually found a couple pieces on eBay that are similar. One is called Drexel heritage Grand Tour sketchbook dated 8/76. The next one is the Drexel sketchbook French Bombe dated 7/82. So I am thinking that mine is not a heritage but somewhere in that same vicinity, since mine was made an 11/68 and does not have the Drexel heritage Mark. It’s just the regular Drexel mark on it, So it must be pre-Drexel heritage. I am so happy to finally have a name for my set. I can only find like three things in this category though so far in my search. I purchased this for $300, 11 years ago in an estate sale. From the look of it I got a really good deal. Thanks so much for the help ladies I really appreciate it.

Hello, I have the matching nightstand if you're interested...but am located in Vegas. Original exterior finish. Original drawer pulls in excellent condition. Drawers glide smoothly. Some scrapes and scratches.

I have the matching nightstand! Did you find similar furniture to it or the name? It is a such a cute piece and haven't found any elsewhere. If you want the pieces together I would sell it...I'm going to start repainting it soon.

    Try ebay?

  • I would take a picture and do a Google Image Search. I have found so many items that way. It's a super tool to use, especially when shopping or looking for hard to find or older items , second hand.

Hello, hope this helps you. To find a matching piece, you can search for terms such as:

    1. "French Provincial dresser"
    2. "Vintage Drexel Heritage dresser"
    3. "Henry Link French Provincial"
    4. "Rococo style dresser"

Step 1: Identify your Drexel collection

Examine your dresser for identifying markings, which will help you narrow down your search.

    1. Look for labels or stamps: Check the back of the dresser, the underside of the top, and inside the top drawer. Drexel placed stamps or tags with the brand name and sometimes the collection name and production year.
    2. Locate the serial number: Drexel serial numbers are often on the back or bottom of the piece. Before 1971, serial numbers were not standardized, so if the number format is different from "three digits, a dash, and three more digits," your piece is likely older.
    3. Decipher the date code: Some Drexel pieces from specific eras, such as the 1960s, may have a date code stamped on the back. Some codes indicate the date the item was made. For example, a code of "165230" on a Lane dresser was reportedly interpreted as "March 25, 1961".
    4. Photograph the features: Take clear pictures of the entire dresser, the hardware, the legs, and any other unique design elements. These details can be very helpful for identification.

    Step 2: Research the collection

After you've gathered information from your dresser, research the collection to see other pieces that were part of the same line.

    1. Search online for the collection name: If you found a collection name like "Profile" or "Accolade," search online marketplaces and forums for that specific term.
    2. Use image search: If you can't find a name, use an image search with photos of your dresser. This can bring up listing photos from other sellers who have correctly identified the collection.
    3. Join vintage furniture groups: Facebook groups for vintage or mid-century modern furniture are excellent resources. Post pictures of your dresser and ask members for help identifying the collection.
    4. Look for old catalogs: For more obscure collections, try searching online archives for old Drexel catalogs from the estimated production era.

Step 3: Search secondhand markets for matching pieces

Once you know the collection name, you can start searching for companion pieces like nightstands, headboards, and chests.

    1. Specialized furniture marketplaces: Use sites like 1stDibs, Chairish, and Incollect, which specialize in vintage and antique furniture.
    2. Online auction sites: Search eBay, Etsy, and other online auction sites using the collection name. You can also save a search to get notified when new items matching your query are listed.
    3. Local online marketplaces: Check sites like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, where you may find listings from local sellers who don't ship.
    4. Local antique stores and vintage shops: Visit local shops in person. Many vintage dealers specialize in certain brands or eras and may have pieces in their inventory or know where to find them.

  • This will possibly take some patience and steady searching online in places like eBay local, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or dropping by garage sales or estate sales.
