Bubble Wrap Window Insulation Hack: Save Money & Stay Warm This Winter
If you’ve ever lived in a small town with older houses, you might remember the age-old winter tradition of insulating windows with plastic sheeting and tape. While modern homes often come equipped with better windows, heat loss through glass remains a common issue.
Adding an extra layer of insulation, like bubble wrap, can make a significant difference. Not only does it help conserve energy, but it could also save you anywhere from $100 to $500 over the winter, depending on the size of your home and how many energy-saving practices you use.
1. Gather Your Tools and Materials
The only things I used for this winter hack were bubble wrap and a spray bottle filled with water.
2. Precut The Bubble Wrap
Measure the bubble wrap to match the size of your windowpane and cut it to fit.
3. Spray the Window
To make the bubble wrap stick, simply spray a light mist of water evenly across the window surface.
4. Apply the Bubble Wrap
Start at one corner and press the bubble wrap gently onto the window. It will adhere quickly.
When you're ready to remove it, just peel it off and wipe the window clean with a cloth.
Step-by-Step Guide to Bubble Wrap Window Insulation
I was amazed at the difference it made! The best part?
I still had sunlight streaming in. I could easily open and close the sliding window, it didn’t block any light, and it only slightly obscured my view.
