Not quite sure why everyone is suggesting red. With the red roof and the red brick, that's the last color I would suggest. I would want a contrasting color on the door. I would stay away from anything in the red family -- orange, pink, etc -- too close to the rest of the reds. I've always liked the combination of white, red and black. That would probably satisfy hubby as well. If you don't want a stark black, you could go with a shade of gray, which would be softer. I think painting the trim around the windows to match would make them pop a bit more too.
BTW, I love the style of your home -- always loved that Craftsman/bungalow style. I'm jealous ! lol
Let us know what you decide !
Love your house! I'd vote black, charcoal, deep navy or yellow the shade of a duck and tie these together in shutters, window trim, etc. My two exterior doors are the yellow and it makes me smile every time I come through them. Like the idea of calling more attention to the steps too.
really pretty home! I would paint your door black or red and add black shutters to match. I would also trim bushes down so that you can see the house better. I would not let them get taller than the porch.
How about PURPLE? Purple in Chinese, brings good fortune.
Black or deep blue shutters, with a golden rod or mustard yellow door.
Dark Red all day long...
i like the dark grey idea. mix it up without throwing too much color in.
I would be more concerned about a rail around the porch and off steps, especially for insurance and safety reasons, Paint idea could go red, white and blue, especially if you plan to put up a flag. Would also paint the concrete steps or a fresher concrete coat, might just do the trick, If the brick columns are faded or not the bold red on the roof, they too could use a fresh coat. Trim landscape will also add attraction to your new paint job. Enjoy your place and I can see the swing being a great place for an accent cushion for comfort.
I would go with probably a steel gray door and window trim.
I think a charcoal grey or black would look beautiful on your lovely home.
Or maybe a navy blue.
I too have a 1930s house that is all white. First of all, I LOVE your roof color! My house has black shutters, and I just painted the dirty, boring white door bright yellow (it's called Smiley Face yellow from Home Depot). In the Spring, I plan on taking the shutters down and painting them a medium green color. I love a country cottage look, so I love red, green, and yellow together. I have a wooden bench that I'm painting a berry red color that will go on the porch. A lot of different colors I know, but I think it will all blend considering that's the look I love. It all depends on YOUR style though. In the future, when my roof needs replacing, I will DEFINITELY consider a red roof! It looks FABULOUS!!
A bright royal blue would bring a touch of color and whimsy to your entrance.
Personally I think I would go with black front door and if you have shutters do the same. I'm having same issues...house is creamy yellow with green metal roof and I'm tired of my green shutters and white door..... ugh
Red! It would tie the roof with house. This looks like a bungalow is it? I'm glad that you are not destroying the outside although I would power wash the white paint off of brick columns.
Red - definitely. I have a home with a large front porch and a red front door and it popped. Have fun with it!
Oops your columns are natural great bonus! But I would do the screen door in red as well order them together. I can see geraniums in your future on each step and by front door.
I would do a dusty purple almost going to magenta. My friend down the street did that. Wait, I did that too.
Bright blue, yellow, black, or Pantone's 2017 color of the year- Greenery. Your house is adorable.
I painted my front door a beautiful light teal. I love it. I think teal would be a good color for your front door.
Teal or Navy Blue would look great.
You have a red roof and red bricks already with your house and so if I were you, I would keep up the theme and not only have the door at least with a red trim if not completely red in a matching shade but would trim the windows in a matching colour as well. Right now, you have to really look to find both the windows and the doors.
Thinking red
navy blue
Black with black dusters on windows .
Def Black... Red would be to matchy-matchy...Black is bold but will not clash with any other colors on the house and look sophisticated...
Yellow-gold, black or charcoal, a lovely Robin's Egg blue
Navy or Turquoise front door. Add coordinating accents on window trim, window boxes, porch furniture and flowers. Nice house!
I would like to see a darker brick/rust color on the door. Something between the roof color and the brick. I'd like to see the windows and door trimmed with another color, perhaps charcoal gray?
If bright and bold are the way you want to go, I'd opt for a rich, bright turquoise. Years ago I never would have thought of red and turquoise together but I've seen quite a number of examples of that color combo over the last couple of years and it's impressive!
Deep Navy would add richness
I would do either Red or a deep navy blue
Think of the color wheel. You have the neutral white house which is really an absence of color. The great red roof that is leaning toward umber red. The bricks pull in a bit of the umber red and I'm guessing from the photo the grout is a sandy color. Then you have the flagstone that repeats the red umber. Your existing colors are organic which is a great start. Your brick is offset by the white and then the reddish brown brick and flagstone are all. I suggest a soft gray-blue, like a Federal Blue or some people call it french blue. This is a sample of what I mean. It looks clean and classic.
I love dark red doors. Prime with black, then dark red.
Red would be very nice and fend shui, red paint also wears very long time an enamel 2 coats.
First, do SOMETHING with the shrubbery. It dominates the front, and hides the house.
Then, feng shui says red means "welcome". Among the Pennsylvania Dutch red says you have unwed daughters.
Green or Navy would be nice. If you want bright do Apple Green or Hazy Jade. If you want something more traditional Rich Navy would look good also. All three would pop and then use the colors to find accent pieces. Since you have a front porch you could get a chair with a pad that has whatever color you choose in it or rug, etc. Take a look at HGTV as they have a section called "Outdoor Style" which can also give you different ideas on Curb Appeal. Good Luck!
I am sooooooo jealous of your home and new adventure. Fabulous style. Always wanted a metal roof. And I love renovating. Maybe a black door with an oval window would look welcoming. You can add pops of color with potted plants and flowers. Best of luck. Enjoy your new home.
what did you decide for the doors? i see this post dates back away ...
Plum/Purple Door. Purple and Red go great together. Add topiaries on either side of the front door and then colorful pots filled with pretty annuals on the steps leading up to the porch.
Your house will look spectacular!
Depends on which way front door faces! If it faces south.... any shade of red especially a deep red!
Hey BabyBoomerSC. My Houzz name is Boomer775. Here is my purple door and purple pots. I think we have some things in common. Lol
BTW. The steps have since been cleaned up
WHITE - Add Planters either side or hanging baskets!
I think red. Since you just had your roof done, you could ask the roofers what color red it is and then you wouldn’t have a problem matching it.
Charcoal gray or navy blue! I'd also paint the window trim the same as the doors, then add a pretty colorful wreath on the door you want guests to use.
Yellow!
You could always Paint it Turquoise or Lime Green!
Hi Lynn, I would go for a nice red to compliment the roof color!
Red door, definitely. If you can find a pineapple door knocker.
Red door and an Inexpensive brass knocker!! Both scream WELCOME!!
A nice country blue.
I'd go with red to match the roof.
Red, absolutely, to match that lovely roof. Plus it's such a bright and welcoming color.
Bright red or Navy Blue.
