I hate it! Saw enough of the real stuff growing yp
I have seen a chest like the top one, painted silver and done with silver leaf, crystal knobs and a mirrored top.... quite nice!
I'm not a fan either and don't have any in our home. But I know many people love it.
Not my cup of tea. Takes time and skill to refinish a piece, and many don't want to take the time IMHO. I started out in my teens working in an antique shop in Philadelphia on antique row while in art school. If I want an old chippy piece, I would rather travel around the countryside to find a real one.
thinful it
I tend to agree. Our entertainment cabinet came distressed make an attractive visual statement but one distressed piece seems enough.
I don't either however, I am newly loving dark glazing put on and wiped mostly off. Looks rich and beautiful.
I cringe
I agree! What is wrong with the warmth and beauty of well cared-for furniture?
I have been over the distressed look for some time. I am struggling to find new bedroom furniture cause everytime I find the right style and finish, it has been slightly distressed...really! Use to appreciate small accent pieces, but it has too far for way too long.
Well you have had many answers to your question and I guess when it comes down to it. If you own the piece and that's what you want to do to it, It's ok! but it is not for me!
I like both, depending on what else is going on with a space, but that green is truly a gorgeous piece!
Hi! I agree, sometimes it is just too much! I don't mind a light touch, but some of this stuff looks like it was run over by a truck!
Grew up dirt poor all of our furniture was distressed (we called it second hand my downs) not a good period and I really don't want to relive that.
Hi KrySFL: Also not a fan :)
Thanks for your honest opinion, I am not a fan either of distressed furniture, love natural wood and all it's grains.
Hi Krystal: Not a fan of distressed furniture, either. I like the real wooden look with a good waxing or a nice paint job. You can always add new hardware to make it look better, but beating it up just isn't my cup of tea :)
I'm not a fan of the "distressed" look either. Trends come and go and the distressed faze has never inspired me to want a piece of furniture that had been distressed nor did I ever want to try the look on any furniture I redid. I learned my lesson by doing the "sponge painting" on an accent wall once! 🙃
Grew up very poor and all my furniture was distressed but not for a fashion statement because it was second and third hand. Just like my jeans have holes in the knees but they got there the old fashioned way (scrubbing floors).
So to each their own. Distressed is not for me.
I do not like it either. If I wanted my furniture to look old I would not redo it.
For me, it depends on the piece of furniture. I do tend to lean toward liking it though.
Hello KrysFL I agree with you, I guess it all comes down to personal taste.
I think it's on a case by case basis.
