IKEA Hack: Make a Portable Kitchen Island

When we moved to Canada, I loved the rental we found, but hated the lack of counter-space. IKEA has "kitchen carts"--but none of them had adequate surface on the top for what I wanted, so I wandered through IKEA and came up with an island that I could move around easily.
The pieces I chose are shown in this photo, but you could probably do the same with any number of IKEA pieces. This towel rack is quite sturdy, and because I don't want to move the unit using the tabletop, it also doubles as handles for the cart. We installed the alternate tabletop with the hardware provided with the cart, and it worked out just fine.
Whatever you use for the handles, they have to be able to support a good bit of weight, so be sure to pre-drill a hole in the leg of the cart and use a full nut/bolt assembly to hold it. You could certainly use a shorter bolt--we just used what we had on hand.
This cart is very sturdy and has been a great addition to my kitchen. My husband joked that he could table dance on it--but wouldn't dare because he'd crack his skull on the tile floor. This was my first IKEA hack, and also is my first post. Hope it's helpful!
