Repurposed French Door Into Wall-Mounted Coat Rack
W re-purposed a French door with 10 glass panes into a wall-mounted coat rack with family photos and hand prints. Steps include:
1. cleaning the door frame and glass panes (I just wiped t down, no touch-up painting)
2. selecting and printing 100 family photos and attaching the collage to the back of the glass panes using mod podge 3.making hand prints of each child in top center pane
4. screwing on 5 garment tri hooks (one centered under each column of panes), and
5. horizontally mounting door onto wall using two 4-foot punched angle brackets above and below door.
We found this French door for sale through a local yard sale advertisement. It has a nice wood frame and glass panes which we simply wiped down- no touch-up painting, and we kept on the original hardware.
The most difficult task was selecting 100 family photos, cutting them to fit into a collage, and attaching them behind each glass pane using decoupage.
We then decoupaged photos to the back of each glass pane.
One tri hook was screwed into the door under each column of glass panes.
After selecting the exact location, we measured for the top and bottom of the door, and mounted a bracket above and below the door to ensure it was attached safely and securely. Screws were placed through the brackets into the wall and into the door.
Here is the finished project in use.
The wall-mounted family coat rack was placed in the entrance hallway. We love it!
