Easy and Affordable Wood Wall Art

You may very well have a lot of these supplies at home already. Here is a list of what I used:

• Glued-edge pine board. I used the 1''x12''x4ft board from Lowes, and it was about $12. They have a variety of sizes available.
• Painters tape (you can vary the width if you want for a different look)
• Foam roller
• Small trim paintbrush
• Stain & paint colors of your choice (I used four different colors)
• Picture hangers (I used the saw tooth ones, but any kind will work)
• Paper towels (or a lint free cloth)

Use the painters tape to create your design! This is where you get to be creative. Decide if you want a color block look, maybe a striped look...whatever fits your style and personality! If you mess up, just take the tape off and try again. You can definitely play with this part until you are happy with it. Be sure to take the tape around the edges.

*Note that I did not paint or stain the board first, so my lines will end up being the natural wood shade. You could paint or stain your board if you would like your lines a different color, just keep in mind that you will have to paint over that color for the blocks, so be sure to use something that will be easy to cover, and allow for ample drying time before placing the tape.

Use a credit card, flat edge of a putty knife, or whatever you have handy to really press the tape down and get a good seal so that your paint/stain does not bleed through into your lines.

Use your foam roller and brush to start laying your paint and stain colors down. You may want to use a cloth for the stain to get into the small areas. Be sure to use light pressure to create thin coats. Too much pressure will cause the paint/stain to bleed under the tape. Be sure to color the edges of the board too!

*Tip - I decided where I wanted each color first, then marked using a small dot of each color in the blocks where I wanted it, so that I did not forget as I moved through the spaces and accidentally paint/stain a block the wrong color

Once you are satisfied with coverage, let it dry to the touch.

Once the paint/stain is dry to the touch, carefully start to peel away your tape. I think it is easier to remove the tape if the paint is not completely dried through, so be sure to go slow so you don't smear the paint.

*Tip - take the tape off in reverse order of how you put it on; find your top piece and pull that off first to avoid any issue with the tape tearing or smudging the color as you remove it.

Attached your desired picture hangers to the back and put your work of art up for all to see!

The great thing about this project is that you really can design it for any space and style. This piece is in my best friend's house, and she had a tall narrow space to fill, so I used the board vertically to accommodate it. She has an MCM vibe in her house, so we made this piece more abstract. You could so something with softer lines and colors if you wanted more of a farmhouse or vintage look. I love how it turned out!
