You've found a great set of dresser drawers that are fully functional. but missing a keyhole cover. How on earth are you going to solve that problem? Well, I've got a simple craft project that will fix it in a pinch! Grab your molding clay and get started.
This thrift store find was great, but needed a new keyhole cover.
Step 1) Remove the keyhole cover that you want to replicate and grab a package of sculpey baking clay. I used metallic gold.
Step 2) Roll your baking clay into a ball.
Step 3) Flatten the ball of clay and make an imprint using the keyhole cover.
Step 4) Remove the keyhole cover, and reveal an imprint.
Step 5) Place on parchment paper on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes at 275 degrees.
Step 6) Remove your mold from the oven, let cool and fill with a small amount of flour to avoid stickiness.
Step 7) Roll another ball of sculpey clay.
Step 8) Press the ball of clay into the mold and peel apart to reveal your faux keyhole imprint.
Step 8) Press the ball of clay into the mold and peel apart to reveal your faux keyhole imprint.
Ta-da! You've revealed your duplicate keyhole cover.
Step 9) Cut out your keyhole mold. Don't forget the keyhole itself!
Step 10) Place your faux keyhole on parchment paper and bake again for 15 minters at 275 degrees in the oven. Don't forget to put it on a baking sheet.
Step 11) Let cool and paint with acrylic paint (if necessary).
Step 12) Apply heavy duty adhesive to the backside of your faux keyhole cover.
Step 13) Place your keyhole cover onto the missing area. Let dry.
