Rolling out gingerbread dough for our Christmas cookie project

1. Prepare and Cut Your Cookies

Roll out your gingerbread cookie dough on a floured surface until it’s about ¼ inch thick.

Use your star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out several star shapes. This classic shape will give the Christmas cookie candle holder a festive look.

Cut-out star shapes with circles in the center

Next, use the small round cookie cutter to cut a hole in the center of each star. This will be where your candlestick sits, so make sure the circle is big enough to fit it securely.

2. Bake and Shape the Stars

Transfer your star-cut cookies to a baking sheet and bake according to the dough instructions.

As soon as they’re out of the oven, press the round cookie cutter into the center hole again. This ensures a clean and even shape for your candle holder.

Cookies cooling before decorating

Once done, let the cookies cool completely.

3. Decorate the Cookies with “Icing”

Now for the fun part: decorating! Using Tulip Matte Dimensional Fabric Paint (or your preferred fabric paint colors), decorate the edges of each cookie to look like holiday icing.

Adding icing-style designs with fabric paint for a realistic look

The fabric paint will create a realistic, textured look, giving each Christmas candle lamp holder a festive flair. Let the paint dry overnight to set.

4. Assemble the Candle Holder

Once your decorated cookies are dry, use a hot glue gun to glue two cookies together.

The bottom cookie will provide extra support, so keep its decoration simpler.

Stack and glue the cookies with the painted sides facing out, allowing the center hole to remain open for the candle.

5. Add Your Candlesticks

Finally, insert a candlestick into each cookie holder. And there you have it—a unique Christmas cookie candle holder, perfect for your holiday table or mantle!

Cute- but these have no instructions on whether they can be saved for further use or preservation- this is a regular cookie dough recipe. Can not save this pretty things as is.

Spray with a clear sealant. I did a similar project and the cookies lasted several seasons.
