Tape on laminate flooring?

Z on Sep 10, 2014Hey @Marcy, you might want to try using something like this you can pick up at your local HoDe. It comes with double stick tape. http://www.homedepot.com/p/UT-Wire-5-ft-Cord-Protector-with-3-Channels-Beige-UTW-CP501-BG/203377571?cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&cm_mmc=SEM&gclid=COjvgNWM18ACFUrlKgod-0UAFw&gclsrc=dsHelpful Reply

Shari on Sep 10, 2014The product in the link Becky provided is a cool idea if it will work in your application. I have a tiny (2 inch) step between the short hall from my garage into the breakfast room. Everybody always comes in through my garage door so if I forget to say to new (and old) visitors, "Watch the little step," they invariably stumble over it because it's so darn hard to see. Finally I came up with the idea of using a strip of blue painters tape across the length of the step to make it more visible. I have to change it out periodically due to traffic wear and it pulls off easily and leaves no residue on my laminate. Of course, if your electrical cord is going to be in a place where it will be in full view, you might not want to use painter's tape but it won't hurt the laminate if you do.Helpful Reply

Marcy on Sep 10, 2014Becky and Shari thank you so much! Becky: What you suggested would of course be ideal, I would look into ordering those. Shari- That's a great idea! I wonder though if the blue tape will have enough adhesive to hold the cords downs. I'll post a picture after I figure out what to do.Helpful Reply

Shari on Sep 10, 2014My laminate is very smooth and the painter's tape sticks like glue to it. As long as you don't have a lot of texture in your laminate and you get a good brand of painter's tape (not some off brand from the dollar store), I think it would be sticky enough but not sure about width. My roll of blue painter's tape is more on the narrow side but would probably easily cover and hold down a regular lamp cord easily enough. I can't remember if painter's tape comes wider, or not since it's been a while since I bought any but, if not, you could always overlap 2 pieces...or even 3, if you are using a heavier duty cord. Again, it just all depends on your cords and where you're trying to do this (hidden or in view). Good luck. Hope you find something that works.Helpful Reply
