How can I clean this old glass Pyrex dish?

White cleaning vinegar would be my first try. Let it soak in a 50/50 mixture of hot water & vinegar with a tbsp of blue dawn in the sink. If that doesn't lift it, baking soda mixed with hydrogen peroxide formed to a paste and scrub.

Hi Tammy my first suggestion would be what Kathy suggested. That looks like calcium build up to me and the best thing I've found to get rid of it is vinegar. I would soak it for days, hope that helps, good luck!

Try vinegar and/or a paste of baking soda and water and scrub it.

If heated white vinegar does not work, try this. Spray with oven cleaner. Put in a plastic bag and secure. If possible let sit in the sun for a day. Or do the same with ammonia. Then clean with a non scratch scrub pad.

Note that Kathy said, "white cleaning vinegar" - it's got more acidity than normal white vinegar and is sometimes at larger dollar stores. One site mentions to fill the pan with 50/50 cleaning vinegar and water, place in the oven at 350* for 45 minutes.

My "go to" for cloudy glasses and other funkiness is Barkeeper's Friend with a green scrubbie. It scrubs out most things easily and won't harm the Pyrex. (do NOT use on silver or gold embellishments!)

I think there's hope because I can see in the pics that some of the white has scraped off. If it had not (you'll find this often in glass vases), it means the glass has permanent damage called etching.

Is it powdery? I've seen this on glass before, and I'm not entirely sure it's safe to use. I think the glass itself or coating is breaking down or that it's had a reaction with something else. Personally, I wouldn't use it for food.

I agree with Dee, I wouldn't use a SOS pad on any ceramic or glass item as it scratches it and causes food to stick to it.

I have an old dish I inherited from my step mom. It's the same way. I've tried just about EVERYTHING to get it off, but it hasn't worked. I just learned to pretend it's not there.

Try soaking the dish in a mix of warm water, vinegar and baking soda. Let soak for a while, preferably over night, and then scrub with a scratch free pot scrubber to remove what is on there. Rinse again in hot water and vinegar to bring back the shine.

I found this page on cloudy glasses and ended up reading the entire thing... very interesting. Toothpaste is another option to get the glass clean again.

I suggest trying a moistened Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Wet the eraser well, then scrub all the inside and outside surfaces with the Magic Eraser. Then wash well in hot soapy water. I think you will be successful in removing the foggy resideue.
