How to steam clean blinds?

You can, just don't get too close to them, just enough to loosen the dirt so you can wipe clean afterwards. I prefer using a microfiber cleaner that is designed for blinds. You can get 2 from Amazon $7.99. It is washable and has "fingers" that will hug the slats. It's fairly quick to run it over them, faster than getting out a steamer, filling, steaming, and wiping down. They are also washable.

Hand held steamer is used to remove wrinkles in fabrics. I doubt it can be used to clean fabrics. It's possible it could loosen some dust and dirt that can be wiped off but the moisture may just spread or imbed the dirt.

I tried this on my fabric shade. It worked well enough to be able to wipe the dirt off with a microfiber cloth

I have tried this and it ends up making a mess. Better off getting a cleaner made for blinds as Kathy above suggests.

I saw this and have an alternative solution. I am a work at home husband who also has time to keep the house clean.

I am doing spring cleaning and I bought a retractable clothesline to set up outside so I could take it down easily. There are a bunch on Amazon!

I then unhooked the blinds, both the old mini blade and the 2 inch faux blinds and put them on the clothesline. Next, I spray them down with Pinesol, or a Clorox water bottle 50/50 and let them set for 30 minutes. Spray them down with water from the hose.

I then took the curtains down and washed them as well. After I clean everything to do with the window and waited a few hours for them to dry, I hooked them all back into place. ALL DONE!

My wife instantly noticed at supper (yes I cook) mainly from the smell and it was approved . After a week I had them all done and cleaned while still making money online.

So if you have a clothesline outside give it a try. Blinds do not weigh much, 10lbs, so I was able to do 2 at a time . Some of the old one are really bad so I am ordering more of the 2 inch slatted faux blinds to replace them.

I agree with William, a steamer might make things worse as most steamers are for removing wrinkles. I’d take them to a dry cleaner or call a curtain shop, see what they recommend.

I clean mine in the bathtub with the shower head... Not everything has to be complicated.. keep it simple. Usually works

Thanks for the advice everyone, I don't think I will steam clean my blinds with the steamer and will definitely follow everyone's suggestions.

The hand held steamer, I would be surprised if this would do a cleaning on your blinds, take them down and wash them in the tub, rinse and hang to dry outside.

think you would have a bigger mess than you realize with dripping water etc and not recommended on faux wood or wood blinds

All you have to do is direct the steam generated from the steam cleaners on the window blinds. The hot steam quickly softens the dust and other tough deposits on window blinds but this is messy and I would only use water no chemicals.

I think it's easier to take them down and wash them in the bathtub.
