Vintage Locker Look Closet Door
I remodeled our main bathroom and wanted to do something special with the closet. I was inspired by some antique wooden lockers we saw online.
- I started by removing the original doors and trim.
In order to have something to attach the hinges to, I installed new 3/4 inch solid oak casing. I also used a piece of oak veneer plywood to divide the interior space in half.
I constructed a frame to hold the 2 drawers on the bottom. In keeping with the vintage look I wanted, I made the drawers very simply, with no interior hardware.
I constructed 4 shaker style doors scaled to fit in my opening. I recommend referring to a DIY book for instructions. I installed pieces of the perforated sheet metal in the top panel. My flat panels are free floating to allow for expansion as this is in a bathroom. I added cross pieces to the back of the doors to prevent warping and add strength.
To create the illusion of having 4 separate lockers, I added a 1 inch wide piece of oak to the edge of doors 1 and 3. I also sawed a kerf along this piece.
To finish, I used an antique oil finish- with no color added. It really brought out the natural beauty of the wood. I I installed magnetic catches, brass handles, label holders, and numbers. I used the screws that came with each. To personalize, I printed my family's names on the computer in old fashioned script and put them in the label holders.

Hello, I'm going to do this. Only thing is I don't understand how the drawers fit with the doors op3ning. Are they stationery ir are they attached to the doors. Anxiously awaiting the answer.
