Sunburst Door Knob Tutorial
I was inspired by some beautiful yet very expensive door hardware, after searching for affordable options or tutorials and finding none, I decided to make my own and share it with you.
Hometalk Recommends!
Supplies
•1/4 inch square dowels
•wood glue
•coping saw (or other cutting tool to cut your dowels.
•tape measure
•pencil
• spray paint (I used krylon satin brass)
Place your dowels on the knob and figure out what length to cut each dowel.
(Each door size is different and your design may vary from mine.)
It’s likely you will be able to use one dowel for at least 2 cuts.
You’ll want to sand any of the rough or uneven ends. You want them to be as even and smooth as possible.
Once your dowels are cut to size, they are ready to be spray painted. I used an old box to stand the dowels into. Once the first portion is coated and dry. Flip the dowels around and paint again.
TIP: Use the same color paint on the door knob and dowels.
Now it’s time to attach your dowels. Look for the prettiest side. This is the side that will show when you place your dowels on the door. Flip it around and place the glue on the dowels.
Have a damp towel or paper towel, so you can wipe off any excess glue around your dowels.
