How can I use old whiskey wooden boxes that are appx 20x16x18 for a modern decor?

Lightly sand the boxes and put on a wipe on poly finish. Get some hairpin legs and make a set of tables. You could do different heights for added interest.
You can use them as planters, make them into stools, or put wheels on them and rope handles for cute storage bins.
Planters, stacked as shelves, make ottomans with a cushion top, toy storage, hang them on the wall for displaying trinkets, etc
