I have an 5 gallon glass water jug and would love to reuse it but can't find any ideas for a jug that large.

Use the jug for the base of a lamp shade. Research pinterest.com if you like the idea.

This would make an excellent terrarium, perhaps with a fairy garden motif. You have a nice wide opening so small fairy-like items could be inserted. But even just plants would be beautiful.

use it as a pitcher with some fresh stems. That would look great on an outside tabletop.

J'en ai une aussi. Je vais faire une baignoire pour oiseaux. Faire une porte au cutter sur la paroi de la bouteille. Fendre en deux de la durite pour protéger les pattes des oiseaux des coupures. Mettre tout autour du trou. Suspendre la bouteille assez haute pour que les chats n'y aillent pas et assez bas pour la remplir sans effort. Par ces temps de canicule les oiseaux seront bien contents. I filled mind with potpourri and christmas lights. then cover with a piece of christmas fabric cut in a circle held on with a piece of ribbon around the top. It smells great when lite.

I would cut off the top to make a wide opening then would fill it with beach rocks, sand, and shells. Set a 12"x12" piece of tile from Home Depot on it as a table. Or you can just fill the uncut bottle with sand and stick a beach umbrella in it. yellowbarninteriors.com

We have used a 5 gallon water jug for years to fill with coins and it is amazing how fast you have $1,000 plus dollars for vacations, etc.

Layers of sand, rocks, seashells, etc. or you could use it as a planter. Just put rocks (or pretty stones that come in different colors) in the bottom for drainage.

I have never seen a water jug with a wide mouth. I have the glass water jugs that used to be used in water coolers before they switched to plastic. I converted mine to lamps and did not drill holes. You can get lamp parts at a lamp shop or HD, Lowes or a craft shop. I used a lovely triangular shaped shade which enhanced the glass jug. If you want you can fill it with unused toys or legos or sand and shells or rock or even use it as a contained tiny environment with miniature people and houses etc. I would not cut the jug because they are quite collectable and you may want to use it for something else in the future. As with anything such as this or furniture please investigate it before altering.

I turned 2 bottles upside down, first putting a piece of round decorative wood that was taller than the bottles. I filled bottles with electric Christmas type clear lights, making sure the cord and the pole stuck out. I then turned bottle upside down and buried the neck of the bottles and poles, which were added for stability, in dirt in my yard. The tables turn into fun side tables for the yard. I spaced them so I could put a board over the both of them to form one long table. I also buried the cords to the lights in dirt and plugged the ends into an outside outlet. Very fun and cute at parties!

I think it would look lovely with some large fake peacock feathers, and some bling on the jar. You could switch it up for seasonal and holidays by removing the feathers, and say adding poinsettias at Christmas. It could make your porch or entryway pop!

It would make a great 4 season jug on a porch or entryway, example : fill with shiny christmas bulbs with spruce branches coming out, for fall use little pumpkin gourds etc.. spring you could use cherry blossom branches from craft store etc.. possibilities are endless !

I've made a terrarium with a 5 gallon plastic jug before, just ad a half inch of gravel and charcoal chips mixed together and about 2 inches of potting soil and carefully use BBQ tongs to add small plants. spriz with water, and watch it grow, If you seal it, you may never need to water it again. sealed-bottle-garden-david-latimer-1

Turn it on its side, add a bit of dirt and moss and make a mini fairy garden. Add some living and fake plants and let your imagination go nuts. You could just use fake plants and dried moss and not deal with the dirt. It could be lovely. At Christmas time, switch over to a snowy wonderland with miniature reindeer and fake Christmas trees. At Easter add moss, fake mini eggs and a cute rabbit figurine or two. Just think of the possibilities for Halloween and even Thanksgiving. Such fun!

Lots of ideas, my first thought was a terrarium. I had one years ago. Either sitting up or on its side. But I like the fairy garden idea too.

Use it to make your own beer or wine. Paint it with mercury glass paint it come is different colors it looks like really old mirror. and you have yourself a lamp base.

Yep, we put only pennies in ours and keep it in a corner of the living room. A friend of mine used the change from his to go on an annual vacation!

How about filling it with layers of different colored small rocks and marbles and half way filled place a bamboo plant in center and finish up with more layers until you reach the base of the neck . Place it in a corner or where you'd like to view it and then fill with water to the top of your rocks/marbles.

Hmm, I think id fill it with either rocks, or sea glass, or both, throwing in some other bits, a few small sticks with moss. Maybe a special button or two. But first id drill a hole in the side and turn it into a lamp. Could have a shade or go more industrial with the contents inside, it would soften the industrial look. cant make up my mind which!

I like to do large floral arrangements. Tall bamboo sticks or beach grass make pretty arrangements. You can add sand & shells to bottom if you like the coastal look. Or branches from a tree that has interesting textures.
