How do I apply peel 'n stick tiles to a vinyl tub/shower surround?
Oh crap! I never thought about taking a foto of "Mr. Ugly"...it's not very photogenic! LoLWhat I have is a 30 year old vinyl tub/shower surround on the walls. It has the slightest texture to it, that's why I'm wondering if peel 'n stick tiles will work on it...well that and the constant water on it I'm looking for a cheap 'n cheerful way to cover those tub/shower walls until I can afford a new insert!

I don't know if the tiles will stick, but I know you could paint it. There are kits made for that. https://www.hunker.com/13417021/how-to-paint-a-tub-surround
Refinishing it with a kit works also. Click on my little picture/name and it will take you to my projects. I recently did a kitchen sink, so I know the kits, at least the one I used works.
Tiles need a smooth surface to adhere to. Your best bet would be to paint. Rustoleum or Homax tub and tile paint kits.
I doubt if the tiles would stay stuck with any consistency.
There is also the risk that the build up of soap residue and water (behind insufficiently stuck tiles) will cause a mildew problem. You could quickly have a worse 'Mr Ugly' to try to clean up or repair.
Peel n stick wouln't last long in a bathroom.
Hope this Helps! Jeremy - https://pahjodesigns.com
You might consider the 4'x8' tile board panels over peel & stick. I had them for 20 years before I did real tile. They had just began to flake a bit and that was with 4 people showering every day, sometimes more.
Nadja: maybe this will help (and using tiles around the insert might create a distraction from Mr. Ugly!)

I’d be concerned about the joints in the tiles getting water in them over time, making mold and then not sticking, exposing the mold.
I would be afraid to do that because water may really damage that
It may not stay put due to all the water
most peel and stick tiles will get water behind them in the shower and also they won't stick well~ here is info on how to do the project for you

Sadly I don't think that's going to pan out for you as water is pretty insidious, it'll get right in there and the adhesive will fail. I'm sure if you do some online research, you can find something that will work temporarily until you're good to go.
Hi Nadja, peel & stick tiles won't hold up in the shower area, but you buy a kit to paint the surround a color you love that is designed to be exposed to moisture. Hope this helps you out

Simply take the back off of tile and place it over the tile on the wall. Proceen in that manor till finished.
