How old is the bed? I think this is a question for the bed store .

Hello, Dollie Sometimes a sagging bed can cause the head and foot boards to bend inward toward the mattress. Be sure any side boards are in place, the head and foot boards are secured and then decide if the frame itself is in need of reinforcement. Also, a new box spring might help if it is worn.

Check the all of the screws and nuts holding it together as they do come loose and striped over time. Tighten or replace any that are no longer working.

Hi Dollie. I had the same issue and it has nothing to do with your mattresses. If your side rails are heavy metal, your center supports, (usually wood), are all in tact, it's the frame is the problem. Like Opal suggested, check all bolts, screws and mainly, the brackets/hooks inside your head/foot boards. There is a pin that goes in vertical and turns flat for the hooks on the side rails to catch on for support. On mine, over the years, I had 5 of the 8 that had broken in some way. Either in two or had shifted downward causing the bed to lean inward. My solutions were; 1. Purchase legs/feet for my bed. I needed 6. 2. Mount or secure my headboard to the wall. 3. Put the frame back together and make the bed. 4. Finally I choose to secure the footboard with new brackets to the frame. I used new screws and hardware. It permanently fixed the footboard to the frame so it no longer bore weight to cause it to sag. It only took about an hour to do. It is not complicated at all. Oh, I did pre drill new holes for the footboard to prevent cracking the wood. Let us know how it turns out for you.

if you have one of those foldable metal frames, sometimes the sliding "C" clamp can loosen and move which allows part of the frame to fall

i have the same problem with my four poster...all screws are tight and still the foot board tilts in...well a bought a package of shims at lowes for $1.58 and solved the problem...i had to use 3 and wedged them between the post and the foot board frame...now it is perfectly straight! i hope this helped.

okay, my old wooden bed has two metal side frames that hold the bedding. the wooden head and foot boards either lean "/" this way toward the end of the bed which also makes the head board lean the same way. I can push the foot board toward the head and the frames will lean "\". the bed does not squeak.

    Suggestions?

no they were cherry wood like the headboard and footboard, but had a metal piece at each end that hooked into the headboard and footboard. sometimes just moving a bed like that will throw it off kilter...that's what happened to mine....it's better to keep all four legs on carpet so that they don't slide.

If you want to fix your four poster bed or any bed frame from the head or footboard from leaning in toward each other all you need are shims. The shins are called “BedClaw” anti-wobbling bed rail shims. You can find them on Amazon.com. They are super easy to install and they will tighten up your frame and also stop your bed from squeaking.

I have an older poster bed with metal side rails. However my problem is different the bed has metal slats that slip into the side rails for support, but the bed has been in the family for almost 40 years and the other day as I went to get into the bed the metal slat slipped out of the railing looks like the slot for one side of the railing has worn or stripped over the years I'm thinking the only fix is to have it welded back together or just get a new bed but would really like to keep it since it was given to me by family any suggestions?
