If it is held on by a screw like mine are, could you either put a shorter screw in it, or maybe put a washer under the knob to tighten it up.

Perhaps you could find a way to cut off the rivet and put on a different handle that has a screw you could adjust when it needs tightening. Maybe there could be a way to put something under the handle on top that could get rid of some of the slack.

HAD SAME PROBLEM . REMOVED IT. REPLACED WITH LARGER HANDLE WITH THREADED SCREW THAT CAME WITH HANDLE. EASIER TO LIFT NOW.

Turn the lid over so the knob rests on something solid. Brace the lid so it doesn't wobble. Take a hammer and gently tap the rivet to flatten the edges of it. You can use a chisel or metal punch to assist in flattening the rivet.

Hi Margie, Cut the rivet then replace the handle with another riveted handle or a screwed on handle you make yourself:

I would try this....Turn the pot upside down and with a big Phillips screwdriver I would gently tap the screwdriver to spread the rivet. You might need someone to help.

Turn the lid up side down, cushion it well. Tap the rivet. You may have to tap it several times, but it will tighten.

The lid looks like a piece of Club Aluminum, which was a type of cookware that was popular in the '40s and '50s. I don't think your knob is riveted on. From my experience with this type of cookware, I believe it is a screw-type holder. I would suggest taking a hammer and whacking the knob off, then replacing it with a suitable knob. I tried spreading the rivet with a hammer and screwdriver, but the handle became loose again. I took Swan Road Designs' advice and wacked the knob off with a hammer and replaced it with the knob off a lid I didn't use any longer. I do have the Club aluminum pot, which I hate to throw away! Thank you for your advice!
