Product Review: Beauti-Tone Designers Series Furniture Paint

I am a big fan of Fusion Mineral Paint - the one-step acrylic paint with built-in topcoat is such a time saver! Almost zero prep-work and great coverage - what else do you need? The only "flaw" for me - the finish is a tiny bit too flat and to obtain a soft sheen for my "Modern Makeovers" (yep, I am one of the rare chicks on the market who is not into distressing and a shabby chic look ;-) I still have to use wax or one coat of poly.
I started my research and stumbled over Home Hardware's own brand BEAUTI-TONE Designer series Cabinet and Furniture paint.
Main features of this 100% acrylic paint (according to HH's website):
- Tough finish with superior washability and stain resistance
- High adhesion on most surfaces
- Dries to smooth factory like finish
- Cross-linking technology: the fusion of molecules results in the ultimate durable paint finish
- Fast 10 day cure (typically latex paint is a 30 day cure)
- Superior hide for greater coverage
- Superior color hold
- Paint and primer in one on sanded cabinets and furniture
- Superior coverage - up to 500 sq.ft. per gallon
My first thought: this sounds too good to be true! I especially liked the fast 10 day cure, the tough finish and the paint and primer in one features. Worth a try, don't you think? Another big plus: I was able to pick whatever color I like - here we go: BEHR Park Avenue, a soft greige color tone and one of my favorite paint tones for walls and furniture. I cleaned, deglossed and lightly (hand) sanded my latest thrift store find - a beautiful MCM Dresser and started painting. Three coats later and I was sold. What a nice and smooth finish AND a very soft sheen - not too shiny, just right! I waited for approx. 4 days and did a quick scratch test on a hidden spot - not bad at all (well, to get to the durable, tough finish the test would make more sense after the 10 days curing time...I will keep you posted).

Hi B.Enne, thanks for commenting. Yes, I was really surprised about the good outcome - not sure why I ignored the Beauti-tone paint line over the last 10 years :-) ....I usually love BEHR paint but after discovering Home Hardware's Woodshield Clear Coat (a non yellowing Acrylic Polyethurane that gives you beautiful results - my No.1 top coat since then) I had a longer talk with the lady behind the paint counter at HH and she highly recommended the Desiger Cabinet & Furniture paint. Excellent product and great value!!

Thanks for sharing this. I have an old art deco chest and you just inspired me. I'm not a big shabby chic fan either, more classic, go with everything kinda girl!
