While browsing at a country market last July (2013), I found this charming old chair on sale for $5. Of course I had to get it! I brought it to our cottage by the ocean and left it, not yet sure how I wanted to transform it.
Come fall, I saw that the chair that had mould on it when I bought it, very little, now had a lot more. I decided to use a primer and chose Zinsser Bull's Eye 1-2-3, giving the chair two coats to protect it and make sure there are no mould issue in the future. After that, a coat of white chalk paint by "Crooked Label" and I then decided to do some decoupage.
Here is my pretty cottage chair!

Old chair, bought for $5. I had planned on keeping at least some of the wood showing, but in the months after I bought it, the chair started getting more mouldy. I felt I had to prime it before working on it, to be sure I wouldn't have mould issues in the future.
Two coats of high adhesive primer, by Zessner, "Bull's Eye 1-2-3"
I decoupaged this scrapbook paper that caught my eye, giving it three coats of Mod Podge. The colour is more blue/green that was is showing in this photo.
My pretty country chair!
The rounded back on the chair was decoupaged with delicate tissue paper I had from years ago.

Gail Salminen on Jan 18, 2015@Marj nice transformation. I love how you took the decoupage up the frame of the back rest. Goes very well with the white paint. Thanks for posting.
