7 Mind-Blowing Irish Spring Soap Tips for a Pest-Free Home
Discover the incredible power of Irish Spring soap beyond its traditional use. In this post, we'll explore a series of practical and effective Irish Spring soap hacks that can revolutionize your household chores and pest control.
This post was transcribed by a member of the Hometalk editorial team from the original HometalkTV episode.
From keeping windows clean to repelling unwanted critters, this humble bar of soap offers an array of surprising benefits.
Let's dive into these creative hacks and find out how Irish Spring can make your daily life easier and more enjoyable!
1. Window Seals - A Natural Cleaner and Pest Repellent
Let’s start with this little grater and all I'm going to do is start by grating the soap. You can do as little or as much as you want.
We are going to start here with our window seal. All you're going to do is sprinkle a little bit of your Irish soap right there in the window seal. If it rains, it's going to clean your window seal. It will also keep the pests away.
When you're done sprinkling the soap, just go ahead and close your window.
2. Garbage Cans
Bugs are often attracted to garbage and what's inside. Another thing you can do is take your Irish Spring and just sprinkle a little bit in the bottom of your garbage can to keep flies away as you are filling your garbage.
3. Protect Your Yard and Garden
This is an area in our yard where we had some mole damage, and we're in the process of mending the damage that was done. What I'm going to do is take some Irish Spring and sprinkle it around this area.
This will keep the rabbits and other animals away because they don’t like the smell of it, so they will avoid this area, and it will allow our grass to come up and heal in this space.
The same thing goes if you have a flower garden. If you have some pests like some squirrels and other animals are eating and picking up this, simply surround it with abunch of Irish Spring and those pests will leave.
4. DIY Spray
Next, I'm going to take a little bit of Irish Spring, and the amount really depends upon where you're at and how many bugs you have in your area, and fill a spray bottle.
You're going to place a funnel on top and pour some water in. If you need something more potent, you can always add some vinegar.
Then, go ahead and give it a little bit of a shake. Over time, the soap is going to dissolve and you will have a spray.
This spray is good as a spray for your body or to spray your plants that attract bugs.
5. Mason Jar Pest Repellent
Next, grab a Mason jar and place a bar of soap inside.
Replace the lid once the jar is filled.
You can also fill your jar with soap shavings as well.
Outside I have this old lantern from Ikea, and I simply place the jar inside. Then when I'm coming to sit outside, I can either open either side and the soap smell will keep the pests away.
6. Doorways and Outdoors
An easy way to scare the bugs away from your porch without making a mess is to slip a bar under something and let the smell do its job.
Next, we're going to talk about doorways because a lot of times bugs are flying in and out of our doors. How can we stop and prevent that from happening when people open and close our doors?
One of the easiest things you can do is take the bar of soap and rub it all around the edge of your doors.
You might also want to rub on the outside edge and the inside depending on where you are getting the bugs coming in.
Another place you can consider it is around your table. You're just going to go around the table here and it will keep kind of the flies away from your table as you're eating.
You just need to go around and rub the edge of your table. You can also rub the chairs this way as well.
We mentioned doing your doors, so don't forget to rub all of them, going all the way around. Keep in mind that when you do this, you are going to need to redo it after it rains.
7. Apple Tree Protection
This is our apple tree and squirrels love to climb up this thing. I've always got something eating at this tree. Sprinkle some of the soap around the base of the tree and this will help to keep the animals away.

Not just the destructive digging!! If they get into your attic or even under your house, they can and will chew the heck out of your wiring!! They may be cute, but VERY destructive!
