How to Build a Homemade Water Fountain With Terracotta Plant Pots

- Terracotta pots (6-inch, 4-inch)
- Terracotta saucers (14-inch, 7-inch, 5-inch x 4)
- Fountain pump
- Clear spray sealant
- Drill
- Round file
- Silicone sealer
- Decorative stones
- Moss
- Potted plants

1. Prepare the Saucers
Begin by applying clear spray sealant to both sides of the 14-inch saucer.
Apply two coats and allow them to dry thoroughly.
2. Drill Holes
Next, use a drill to make a hole in the bottom of the 7-inch saucer and the 6-inch pot.
Have some water handy, to clean off the debris as your drill.
The hole should be large enough for the pipe of the pump to fit through.
Then, use a round file to create four notches in the lip of the 6-inch pot.
Ensure that one of the notches is large enough for the fountain cord to pass through.
Similarly, notch one of the 5-inch saucers four times and notch the lip of the 7-inch saucer once.
3. Assemble the Fountain
Start by placing the fountain pump on the 14-inch saucer. We will cover it with the 6-inch pot with the hole drilled in it, and finally, add the 7-inch notched saucer.
Thread the pipe through the inverted terracotta planter and lower it over the pump.
Slide the pipe through the upright 7-inch saucer and position it over the 6-inch pot.
Trim any extra piping as needed.
Lastly, seal all connections with silicone for a watertight finish.
Allow it to dry overnight.
4. Stack the Saucers
Once the silicone is dry and the pipe is secure, fill the 7-inch saucer with pebbles.
Place a 5-inch saucer upside down on top of the pebbles.
Then, position the upside-down 4-inch pot next to the 6-inch pot.
Notch another 5-inch saucer and stack it on top of the 4-inch pot.
Repeat this process with two more 5-inch saucers.
Place one saucer upside down and stack a second one on top right side up.
5. Decorate and Add Water
Now, it’s time to decorate — this is up to your imagination.
I placed a potted plant on the 5-inch saucers.
Then, I carried on decorating the homemade water fountain with pebbles, decorative stones, and moss.
Finish off by filling the 14-inch saucer with water, plug in the fountain pump, and turn it on.
