Easy Shelves for Linen Closet
If you have a small closet for linens, cleaning supplies, toys and so on, you might wanna check out this quick, easy and affordable DIY to make shelves.
When we bought the house this closet came with brackets (pieces of wood screwed into the wall that support the shelves) and white shelves made of particle boards. I personally love the old farmhouse style so I wanted to find a quick solution to make this closet look more rustic without breaking the bank and buying tools.
I went to the hardwood store and grabbed a pack (it comes with 5 boards) of 1"x4", 8 feet long. I went for the standard pine boards, the cheapest option.
Then, I cut all the boards to size (if you don't have a miter saw just ask somebody at the hardware store, they will gladly do it for you) and applied wood conditioner. I always highly recommend using wood conditioner before staining as it avoids blotchiness.
I stained every board by using the Early American stain colour and then let it dry for an hour.
I lined up 4 boards on each existing brackets et voilà! I was going to glue the boards together but quickly realized it was unnecessary as the boards are all tight together and won't move anyway.
And this is a picture after I started styling the shelves:
- extra towels on the top shelf
- extra products (skincare, hair...)
- cleaning supplies
- laundry bins: darks and lights.
