Update your wall from drab to fab with a Faux Fireplace.

The fireplace is now the room's focal point

To hide a small brick section of wall and old paneling, we built a faux fireplace.

The start of the fireplace farming

We first attached a 2x6 to the ceiling, making sure it was centered on the wall. We then added a 2x6 on each side, attaching it to the floor, wall, and the ceiling board. We also ran a cross board and 2 vertical supports.

Added support for the tv and the mantle

We repeated the process of adding two more sides made out of 2x6s making sure they were as high as the cross piece. Then we added an additional cross piece to create a place for the mantle to sit on. This was reinforced by 3 more 2x6s on the inside of the fireplace. This created the basic shape of the fireplace.

We also added cross pieces to support a television mount and also pieces to attach the mantle to.

The homeowners had a tv stand with an electric fireplace in it. They decided to use the insert in the faux fireplace so framing was built around it.

The hearth was built out of 2x12s

We then built the hearth by making a box out of 2x12s and adding supports inside the box. We screwed it to the rest of the fireplace. Another 2x12 was added on top of the box to be used as the top of the hearth.

Plywood added for support of the stone

The top of the fireplace frame was covered with oak plywood and stained with Briarsmoke stain. The base of the fireplace had plywood applied to prep for the Airstone veneer. Then the barn beam was added as a mantle.

The Faux Fireplace finished

The homeowners love the final look. It could be customized with other colors of stain and paint to fit the style of your home. For more details, check out the blog post: https://boxwooddesignco.com/2019/07/31/faux-fireplace-and-accent-wall/
