I've always had big dreams of walking into this massive kitchen, the size of my living room, with these gorgeous carrara marble countertops. Marble countertops are about as classic and luxurious as it gets in my eyes. Unfortunately, I haven't won the lottery yet so I had to improvise and work withing my budget and my space. Here is how I transformed the old dated and dingy laminate countertops in my kitchen to marble countertops.

The kitchen when I first bought the home.

Attched a waterproofing membrane by Schluter called Ditra Membrane to the laminate counter.

Dry fit the 12x12 marble prior to tiling the counters.

Created a undermount sink look by using Schluter Rondec Sink Corners and tile edging trim. This also eliminated the need to undo and redo plumbing. Needless to say I was very happy about that. :)

Completed undermount sink.

Now the counters I've always dreamed of having at a fraction of a cost.

Your kitchen looks wonderful 👍 😊!!! I love the marble counters, did I miss where you used grout? How do you keep your counters clean where all the pieces put together if you don't use grout?

You did do a beautiful job!

Very nicely done!!!! I did the same with my countertops, but I used grout between the super shiny ceramic tiles (Carrara marble). I have experience a couple of cracks, from dropping things, but I actually like the way the crack looks...aged-like. I think I'll go in with to some grout to fill it; it's much smaller that the spaces between the tiles, so it will look kind of cool. I'm just ecstatic over the money I saved. I always thought I needed "someone to redo my kitchen", but no I don't. I painted my 30 year-old solid wood cabinets in a cool, satin white and replaced the backsplash with adhesive tile (also Carrara marble-but natural stone). Next up, I'm gonna replace the floor with Carrara marble too! It may not be everyone's thing, but I'm the only one who matters, when it comes to my kitchen.
