I wanted to let more light into my dark hall and had this plain large mirror that was screaming out for a pretty up and would do the job!

Mirror ready to decoupage

Firstly i arranged the colors and size of fabric squares I thought would blend well on this mirror frame. I used some left over fabric I had as well as thin cotton printed squares of fabric that would be the kind used by scrap booking enthusiasts you can buy online. I cut them approximately 5 cm square pieces.

Cut fabric cotton squares

I glued using Mod Podge Matte straight on to frame starting from inner edge nearest the glass. Making sure to cover all the wood surround with no gaps so only the fabric covering can be seen. Also making sure the glue also applied over the top of fabric to seal and harden.

Arrange fabric squares around frame

Keep going creating the patchwork effect by slightly overlapping the pieces all the way around and remember to cover all the surround right up to mirror edge. Match colours and patterns that give a complimentary texture and colour palette till finished.

Glue fabric to frame with Mod Podge Matt

Keep arranging and gluing fabric remembering to slightly overlap and go right over the edge and seal on the back (nobody is going to look at the back)

I also soak the squares over the top with foam applicator to smooth wrinkles and create a seal that has a more durable finish.

Apply coat of Mod Podge on the top of fabric

When finished leave to dry and harden for an hour and then its ready to hang on the wall!

I am delighted with how this turned out!
