Who says your Elf can’t hang out in the fridge? This year, I decided to get extra creative and bring a snowy winter wonderland into one of the most unexpected spots in the house.
This elf on the shelf in the fridge idea is too cute for words. Imagine your kids opening the fridge to find your elf ready for a snowball fight—how fun and cheeky is that?

1. Building the Structure for Your Snowy Hill
Start by arranging three toilet paper rolls horizontally on a fridge shelf. These rolls create the height and structure for your snowy hill.
Don’t worry—they’ll be completely hidden by the next step.
2. Adding the Snowy Effect with Batting
Next, cover the toilet paper rolls with batting. This step transforms the rolls into a soft, snowy hill.
Be sure to tuck the batting around the rolls snugly to prevent gaps.
3. Creating Snowballs for Your Elf's Snowball Fight
What’s a snowball fight without snowballs?
Scatter cotton balls around the batting to complete the winter wonderland vibe.
I even had my elf holding a handful of these “snowballs” to look like he’s ready for action!
4. Positioning Your Elf for Maximum Cuteness
The final step is all about placement.
Set your elf at the base of the snowy hill, arranging his arms to hold the cotton balls.
Level Up Your Elf Antics
How to Make It Extra Special
Want to level up your fridge scene?
Add some mini props like a tiny sled, glitter for sparkle, or even battery-powered fairy lights to create a magical glow.
The possibilities are endless, and they’ll turn your elf on the shelf in fridge into a showstopper.
Frequently Asked Questions About Elf on the Shelf in the Fridge
1. Can I use other materials instead of batting?
Absolutely! A white towel or even cotton fabric could work in a pinch.
2. What if I don’t have cotton balls?
Try mini marshmallows—they’re cute and edible!

A small piece of double-sided tape under the elf’s base works wonders.

Of course! A countertop or mantle would look just as magical.
5. What other fridge themes can I try?
Turn your fridge into an elf igloo or a tiny Christmas bakery.
6. Is this safe for food storage?
Yes, as long as the batting and cotton balls don’t touch any open food items.

Ani - it is not freezing. It is in the fridge - not the freezer.

It’s still going to get damp and will not be reusable. With all the cute fun DIY holiday ideas available this one is a NO.
Just…no. If you’re going to put this much time and money into something pick a project to do with your kids. Some projects require a negative response, sorry.
(ps… do not put glitter in your fridge unless you want glitter in your fridge for the rest of your life!)
