DIY Angel Birdie Ornaments
These were too fun not to share!! The ping pong balls and plastic birdies were purchased at the Dollar Tree which made me SO happy! Knowing a crafting experiment isn't going to cost an arm and a leg is always a good thing. Been there. Done that. ;)
I painted several of the birdies different colors for fun but kept most of them traditional white. I cut a small slit in each of the ping pong balls and then cut a hole large enough to fit snug around the tip of the birdie. These balls were made of soft plastic but authentic ping pong balls may require a small drill to get through the surface. The ping pong balls were painted a flesh color and hot glued to the tip of each birdie.
The wings were cut out of a second birdie and then hot glued to the body portion.
A small piece of ribbon was cut and hot glued to cover the neck line. Hair was created using jute cord but yarn will work great as well! To make different colors using the jute, I dipped an extra long piece inside a cup mixed with paint and water (red paint for red hair, black paint for black hair, etc) and allowed them to dry. The jute was hot glued in place. Get creative with your hairstyles!
I painted the key rings and screw eyes gold. The key rings were glued on and the screw eyes were hand screwed into the top of the head.
I painted faces using acrylic paint and a very small paint brush. A raised bit of flesh paint worked great for noses! Paint pens and sharpies will do the trick as well so use whatever technique you are most comfortable with. I had glitter spray on hand and added this at the end for an extra sparkle.
A longer piece of ribbon can be looped through the screw eye to make your ornament complete! Hoping you enjoy making these as much as I did...thinking they will make sweet little gifts this year!

I can't wait to make these. My future daughter-in-law is very talented with paints and markers (which is a good thing since I'm not). She's expecting our 1st grandbaby and these would make great gift ideas for her baby shower games. Plus, when our house burned, we lost all our Christmas decorations. We got a new tree that was given to us but we have very few ornaments. We could make a bunch of these really cheap. I might even try some without the wings and add other accessories to make different "characters" like a helmet and hose for a fireman. I can't wait to get started!

I'd like to ask how do you keep your jute twine from unraveling especially on the angels with the long hair? I just love these and want to make some as a gift for my friend who lives halfway across the country this Christmas. I made her a cute snow man and women couple last hear and she just loved them and I know she would loves these as well. I can see where making these could get additive since I want to make some for myself and for my kids as well if I can figure out how to keep the twine from unraveling. I am so amazed at some of the creative ideas people come up with that I can't wait to try.
