How to Make an Irresistible Cinnamon-Scented Pine Cone Centerpiece

I have a pine cone craft that is going to uplift your home with the scents and sights of the autumn season. These DIY cinnamon-scented pine cones are easy to make and extremely versatile.

Tools and Materials:
- Pine cones
- Plastic bag or container
- Cinnamon essential oils
- Ground cinnamon
- Spray adhesive
- Mod Podge Ultra
- Mod Podge
- Mod Podge Glitter
- Baking sheet
- Wax paper
- Fairy lights
- Display container (bowl, basket, etc.)
- Twine (optional)

Clean the Pine Cones
Before we begin, it's essential to prepare your pine cones. Depending on your climate, they may have bugs or debris.
Here are two options to ensure they are clean:
1. Seal them in a baggie for up to a week to suffocate any bugs.
2. Bake them in a 250°F oven for 25 minutes to remove bugs and moisture. Let them cool.
How to Scent Pine Cones
There are 2 ways to scent your pine cones, you can either use cinnamon essential oil or dried and ground cinnamon spice.
Infusing with Cinnamon Essential Oils
Add your chosen pine cones into a plastic bag or container.
Now, it's time to add the delightful scent of cinnamon. Simply drop in cinnamon essential oils. You can use as little or as much as you like; more drops mean a stronger scent.
Seal the bag and let it sit for 24 hours to a week for the aroma to develop.
Coating with Ground Cinnamon
Alternatively, you can use ground cinnamon to scent your pine cones.
Begin by placing wax paper on a baking sheet and putting your pine cones on top.
I use three different types of glue to stick the cinnamon on the pinecones, depending on which one I have on hand:
Option 1: Spray adhesive
Option 2: Mod Podge Ultra (spray-on)
Option 3: Regular white glue
If you are using the spray adhesive or Mod Podge Ultra, spray them over your pine cones.
If you are using the liquid Mod Podge, paint it onto the pine cones.
Sprinkle ground cinnamon over the adhesive-coated pine cones.
Allow them to dry completely and then tap off the excess cinnamon.
Once dry you can paint some Mod Podge glitter on the tips for a shimmery effect.
You can also seal the pine cones and ensure the cinnamon adheres nicely by spraying the dried pine cones with more Mod Podge Ultra.
Creating a Display
Now that your pine cones are ready, let's create a stunning display:
1. Choose a Container
Choose a container for your display, like a bowl, basket, or vase. I have this iron rod based bowl.
2. Add Fairy Lights
I used these battery-operated LED lights. What I love about this set is it offers fading, flashing, steady on, and a timer. When I set the timer at 4 p.m., it runs for about six to eight hours, turns off, and automatically turns back on the next day at 4 p.m.
Place the battery pack at the bottom of the container. We want to hide it underneath the pine cones.
3. Layer Your Pine Cones
Next, I'll begin arranging my cinnamon pine cones.
There's some extra wire that I'll tuck away at the bottom.
Then, I'll continue placing the pine cones and weave the fairy lights among them. I'll keep doing this until my centerpiece is complete.
Dim the lights and admire the beautiful glow of your cinnamon-scented pine cone centerpiece.
If you prefer a natural look, you can skip the lights for an equally charming display.
Other Ways to Use the Cinnamon Scented Pine Cones
Your DIY pine cone crafts don't have to stop at the centerpiece. Consider these ideas:
- Mantel decor
- Centerpiece filler
- Stack them in a vase with or without lights
- Place them inside a lantern
- Create a pine cone garland
- Craft a pine cone wreath
- Tie a little twine around them to use them as air fresheners or holiday ornaments that exude a wonderful scent
- Store your holiday decor and pack these cinnamon pine cones within your fall decorations. Next season, when you open them, you'll be greeted with that delightful cinnamon aroma.
