Cutting a pool noodle for the straw

1. Create the Straw

Start by taking your pool noodle and cutting one piece that is straight on one end and tapered on the other.

You want it to look like a straw, so make sure the tapered end is at least a little pointed.

Holiday gift ideas for delivery drivers

Since I used a red pool noodle, I wrapped it with white duct tape to make it look like a straw. It’s a quick and easy way to add some color and texture.

Cutting small sections from the pool noodle to create marshmallows

2. Make the Marshmallows

Next, cut three small sections from the same pool noodle.

Wrapping each marshmallow in white duct tape

You want these to be shorter pieces that will resemble marshmallows.

Fun and festive Christmas crafts

You could paint them white, but since I had white duct tape on hand, I wrapped the noodle pieces with it to give them a nice, smooth finish.

Drawing the circle shape on foam board

3. Cut the Foam Board

Grab your foam board and cut out a large circle. This will serve as the top of your giant hot cocoa mug.

Thank you gifts for package delivery drivers

I decided to write a small message on it for the delivery drivers. I used a pencil to sketch it out first and then filled it in with paint markers. You could write something like "Thanks for your delivery!" to show your appreciation.

Cutting out the handle shape

4. Create the Handle

Using the same foam board, cut out a handle shape for the mug.

I painted mine brown with a brown paint marker to match the flower pot base. This will help give your giant mug the full look, complete with a sturdy handle.

5. Assemble Your Giant Mug

It’s time to put everything together. Start by attaching the straw and marshmallows to the foam board circle with hot glue. This will be the top of your mug.

Then, glue the handle to the side of a brown flower pot, which will act as the base of the mug.

6. Fill the Giant Mug with Snacks

Place the giant hot chocolate mugs (flower pot) on your front porch and fill it with snacks.

You can include things like individually wrapped cookies, candies, or even small treats like granola bars.

Thoughtful DIY gifts for the holiday season

Once the snacks are in, put the foam circle on top, securing it with a little piece of duct tape to act as a handle for easy removal.

This is such a generous, great idea. However, we have abundant wild life nearby. Think bear, racoons etc. Any ideas for how to adopt this great idea, without it being a magnet for critters to enjoy?

I would have used the rest of the pool noodle for the handle. It could be wrapped in brown tape also, or what ever color the pot is. I think I might add some xmas decals or cutouts on the front of the cup. Maybe from xmas cards or calendars. Just a thought. I really like this and it might inspire those less than energetic drivers to come all the way to the porch! Some just throw boxes in my yard. Not much further to the porch!
