Cleaning your kitchen faucet probably isn’t something you think of doing often. After all you barely ever see the spout as it is usually pointing down towards the sink. But I bet you, if you have never done this chore before you might be surprised at what your kitchen faucet spout looks like on the underside.

This method for cleaning buildup off of a faucet has to be my absolute favorite. It is so simple and requires only a few supplies you likely already have on hand. Read below to find out how!

For this task you will need some cleaning vinegar. Regular white distilled vinegar works well too but you might need to leave it soak for a bit longer. Due to its higher acidity, the cleaning vinegar literally melts the build up right off.

Here is the before of what my kitchen faucet spout looks like. You can see some of the gunk that has built up around it.

What you do next is pour 1/2 cup to one cup of vinegar into a bag and secure it on your faucet using a rubber band. I find it easiest to secure the empty bag onto the faucet first and then gently pull it open and pour the vinegar in. Depending on the size of the spout you may need more or less vinegar, but you do need to make sure that it is fully submerged in the vinegar.

After about two hours I removed the bag of vinegar and ran some fresh water through the tap and this is what I ended up with. A perfectly clean spout!

Depending on how bad the buildup is (and what type of vinegar you use) you might need to let it soak overnight. If there is any buildup still left on the spout gently scrub it away with an old toothbrush. It should come off very easily.

So next time you are giving your kitchen sink a good scrub, don’t forget to deep clean the spout as well! This tip also works great for bathroom sink faucets and shower heads.
